First Distillation, slight off-taste.

Post by Vodka_Master »

Well I did it, first time i distilled. Everything went perfectly, temp rose and stayed at 78.9 C and all. I discarded the first 50 ml or so and then collected 300 ml for redistilling ( by the way im using a reflux still with a 4 ft colomb) The alcohol that came out was at 94-95%. One thing i noticed is that the vodka, after diluting to 40%, had a slight off taste ( nothing too bad but when doing shots its noticable) It taste the same as what the stuff at the end of the distillation came out, so i obviously went a bit too far. Is there a easy way to smooth out the taste? I read i can use glucose, but can i use a big of regular sugar? Will a bit of homey work with vodka? Thank You.

Yes, cuts take practice. What you start with will make a big difference too. Stay away from turbos, check the tried/true here, you'll get a good one. keep the sg down to pot. 10% 1.08, and so on. lots of reading you'll figure it out, it aint gonna be perfect the first time. it only gets better from here,
