Hi, I used a very simple system of a straight pipe. It has a screw on top and bottom, which have hose connectors coming from them. Its about 6 inches long and made of clear plastic. It came from Spirits Unlimited when I bought my first little still. (Which I no longer use).

I put cotton wool in the bottom, fill about 3/4 full of filter carbon granules then more cotton wool at the top. Then I attach the top hose to my carbon soaking tub tap with hose clamp and the long hose off the bottom goes straight into my demijohn collection bottle. I then adjust a pinch clamp that is on the bottom hose to give me drip rate of one drip per second or even slower. It is a very easy and cheap system but works well.

I did have the top hose come off once, but now I use the hose clamp so no way it can let go.

I know this is an old post but if you do read this Arnie_sla, I wouldn't mind seeing a photo of your setup, sounds just like something I should do.

My current z-filter is leaking no matter what I do so I think I will build something different.

Thanx

I found this site before discovering these forums when I found out how much filters could be. Its for large scale water filtration but could be scaled down to a simple pipe with added flow controls for more control. Its essentially becomes exactly the same as Arnie_sla's filter.
