Cleaning a new still

Post by malcontent »

I am ready to roll with my first mash and my new still this weekend. Is there anything special I should do to clean the still before I use it? I was just going to use soap and water. I read on another thread to use vinegar but that person used solder gel not silver solder.
Thanks

Most folks distill a vinegar solution and then do a alcohol run and toss the first run. I do 2 alcohol runs to get the flux out but I'm a little ocd.

Simple potstiller. Slow, single run.
(50 litre, propane heated pot still. Coil in bucket condenser - No thermometer, No carbon)

you should do a test run with water any way, so just add some vinegar , solve two things at once.
