hey guys so i started making my still today, got 6m of 1/2 inch copper in a coil on speacial for $10 AUS from bunnings

so i got my bucket i would use as my ice bath and found a paint tin that was smaller then it and started to bend the tube around it till it was the height of the bucket, have some pics of the coil to come up soon.

when i finished, to wash the sand out i put the hose on it and water blasted the sand out but where the water touched the copper on they out side it went from shiny copper porn to dull and rank copper. is this the oxidizing? and if this is what happens what how do i clean the inside coz i dont want that contaminating my spirits

also where would be the best place to get a keg free/cheap? i have no idea where to look.

yes but its a natural proses, after awhile you will git a nice patina , as long this not green your good to go.
this also helps remove sulphur compounds within your still. these compounds are produced by yeast and can give off a
rotten egg odor(and bitter), by using copper it is changed into copper sulphate and falls back in to the spent wash
instead of your drink. there's no good way of keeping it off.

A properly sized worm bucket should not require ice at all... While the top few inches may get warm to hot the bottom should remain cool to cold... If you decide to replace some of the water mid-run you want to fill from the bottom and remove from the top...

or i was thinking maybe a 20l (around what size capacity i want btw) stainless pot from a chap place like big W or something? how much would i be looking for one of them?

also, how should i attach the copper to the pot lid/keg if i cant solder? i was thinking a rubber/cork stopper with an extremley tight fit for the copper to go through so it dont leak/pop out.

50L keg is the standard size, very useful.

Use the easy flange to connect your keg to the still. Do a HD Google search (top right) and enter "easy flange". Buttwheat also posted easy flange 2

would it matter if i used at the smallest 10l of wash and most 20/30L of wash in a large 50L keg?
