What if you re-distilled beer from it's purchased state? would the alcohol come first or what?

Not to sound like a persnickity jerk off but beer in it's original state is not already distilled. Therefore one would not re-distill. One would distill.

I hear it tastes like shit when distilled.

Welcome to the forums, darthfry...

Beer is not the best choice for distillation due to the hops... Only a few people have had success with running beer through a still without having skanky hops flavor and smell coming through... A light beer that has been diluted with water might not be all that bad if run through a reflux column but I highly doubt that it would be very good through a pot still... And remember that old saying, garbage in, garbage out...

Did you come across a large quantity of free beer or have some that you made that isn't all that great...???

What type of still would you be running...???

If you're interested in getting involved with home distillation then head on over to the parent site and have a read or three through there, and then come back here and do some research... We have a vast amount of information here to glean information from... If you have questions along the way, just ask...

And LWTCS is correct... Beer in its natural form is simply fermented, never distilled...

Good luck...

Don't do it!!! It is the most gawdawfull smell. The shop reeked for weeks. I smelled it in my dreams For months.
It almost turned me off of beer altogether.
I ran mine in a reflux column.

What's the point?

I like drinking a cold beer just as is... the only reason I could see distilling beer into a more pure ethanol would be to make some antiseptic during the Apocolypse...
