What essence do you peoples recommend to make a good tequila?

I didn't find one in NZ. they all tasted crap. 
and I don't mean inferior, that's implicit in essences, I mean it was crap compared to the other essences. I tried an essencia one and two others, I think they were SS, silver and gold perhaps.
