whats the diffrence
im starting to get confused
what is the diffrence between an internal reflux still and a fractionating still and wich one makes the most % with one run under ideal conditions
just wondering
i know the diffrence between a pot still and a valved reflux
but im thinking that an eternal and a fractionating still are the same?????
thanks again

first I gotta say that I love the idea of an eternal reflux still.
part of the confusion is that people use the
same words to mean a bunch of different things.
but to oversimplify a bit just to get you on something like the right track... all fractionating stills are reflux stills but not all reflux stills are fractionating stills.
In an "internal" reflux arrangement you condense in two places and control the reflux with coolant flow and heat source and in a valved reflux still you condense in one place and control reflux with a valve.

ok thats what i thaught........andi apreacait youre response
all of the stills ive seen on the net look nothing like mine...
i really dont know what i got to be honest with ya
i got a single colum with a coil on top of it
its 40 inches long
4 inches in dia.
it has packing all the way up it exept for the last eight inches er so
it has a temp gage at the top that stays rock staedy at 170
it has a temp gage at the bottom that stays around 210
it has two 4500 watt elements witch one is shut off 15 min. after start up and the other one is run about mid range on a hot water heater thermostat
i think its a fractionating still but not sure
still confussed but the stuff tastes good

also my friend tryd to make a vavled refluxed still
that problem hes having is that when he opens the valve to let the reflux flow ,,,,,,,,,, he gets steam coming out of the product line,,,, i guess he needs a gated check valve
seems complactated or how ever youre supposed to spell that word

It is a fractionating still like Fourway said. Single condensor on top sounds like you control the reflux with a valve like on an el type design so it would probably be termed a valved reflux column.
Edit: Tell your friend he needs less power or a bigger condensor.
