Sugar wash

Post by stillin »

Gonna try wineos sugar wash recipe I found over in the TnT section. Looking to make neutral spirits and being new to this i thought turbos were the shiznit but after my first run and reading on this forum I'm thinking different. Thanks to all for sharing your advice with a newbie. I'll keep you posted!!

Some folks feel that the turbo's high tolerance to alcohol and exessive nutrients brings the yeast into a situation where it can create off flavors due to the stress on the yeast. I happen to be one of them. Much better to use a lower % yeast with a nice stable ferment. I see a lot of people who start with Turbo's, then switch off after they realize that the carbon filtering to remove the nasties doesnt justify the cost.
So it really isnt the shiznit as much as it is just the grizzle.

+1

Use to mash with turbos wouldn't touch em again with a 10ft barge pole
Now love the bakers yeast
Less output, no carbon filtering, Much higher quality spirit

Welcome aboard.

You can't go wrong with bakers yeast for a neutral wash, there is a reason why it's used in so many posted recipes.

I use it as a base line in most of my recipe development.
