I have a shop bought super reflux still.

I would like to put in a tap at the bottom to make it easier to empty it.

Are there special taps and fittings to do this?

Do you have a picture or a link to the boiler? That would be helpful. I'm kinda thinking a weldless bulkhead would work if you don't run anything to high proof, but if we can see the boiler that would help.

I have attached (I hope) a piccy of my still.

It is a standard store bought one. I hope it may be possible to install a tap similar to a large kitchen urn.

I don't think you could get a weadless bulkhead to work on that rig. You might be able to take it to a welding shop and have a threaded 1/2 in. stainless pipe welded into the bottom so as you could attach a stainless ball valve. I don't think I would mess with it, even a welding shop could make a mess out of that, It looks like it might be thin steel.

If it where me I would leave it alone, it works don't fuck with it.

I just totally messed up my shotgun condenser today because it worked fine but it just wasn't good enough. Don't go looking for trouble.

are you using a plastic pipe on the collection outlet to run it to a collection bottle?

if you are i would stop doing it.........

they are very thin walled, you could just drill a hole and use some sort of compreesion fitting and ad a tap to that..... but it's only 25L, use some gloves and tip it down the drain.

The complete unit is as in the piccy. All hoses are plastic.

My boiler looks suspiciously like that. Don't need gloves at all. Take the lid off, leave it for ten minutes and just pick it up from the top. Any bit of metal below the water line will be scalding hot, but above it no problems.

Usually distill in the late arvo to evening,and usually leave the boiler to empty in the morning,Be amazed at the heat-or warmth by then- it retains.Alot less smelly in the morning too.And no burning steam to contend with.

sorry nothing to do with adding a tap,as said above its only 25L,just tip it out,wait to cool down if you must,BUT on the other hand,if by chance you are not able to tip it out on your own for any reason at all,maybe someone else can give you an idea.Those boiler walls on those are thin,maybe drilling and adding a tap of sorts with a washer setup?unsure sorry.

Google "bulkhead fitting" or "bulkhead pipe fitting" and you'll find several options... Drill a hole, tighten into place, and add a gate or ball valve...
