Stinky Yeast!!

Post by W.S.C.beachman »

Question?
I heard that some of the yeast are stinky while fermenting cause of lack of nutrients. Any thoughts on how to keep the stinky farts down!!

I think you may have answered yer own question. feed them some nutrients :D I have never had that problem. sounds realistic though. stressed yeast make off flavors, probably off smells .

Some yeasts are just naturally stinky when fermenting due to production of H2S. If doing neutral washes the H2S smell usually comes off during distillation. Nutrients will help, also lowering the OG of the wash can help too, as you're stressing the yeast less. H2S production is usually highest at the end of the ferment when the yeast are highly stressed and dying.
