I am fermenting my first ever batch of pickles and have plans for some sauerkraut. To see what else can be fermented food-wise I did a search on Google and stumbled across this website. Being a huge fan of bourbon, my attention was captured immediately. Thanks for having me!

welcome along. by the sounds of it you'll have a pot still head going in no time :) UJSM with a bit of malt added in might be a good recipe to start with...

I have been doing a lot of reading these last 5 weeks and am starting to accumulate parts and pieces. I already had a propane setup with a needle valve that I use for smoking sausages that I can use to power the boiler. I picked up a couple 55 gallon HDPE drums to use as fermenters, a stainless half barrel keg for the boiler, a 5 gal pail for my condenser, and a 5 gal pail of blackstrap molasses (I couldn't pass it up as it was $15). I have located a reliable source for some 6.5 gal glass carboys for cheap that I will use to rack my wash and have my copper order just about ready to be placed with McMaster-Carr. I am tempted to build a parrot as well as the value of one to a n00b such as myself seems fairly obvious. I just wanted to thank all of you for helping me get an education and what looks to be one hell of a way to save some money and have fun at the same time.

I do believe a UJSSM will be my first attempt in hopefully a couple weeks.
