I have not done any distilling yet i am currently looking for the right still to begin with. I found a small 3qt Reflux Still here: http://stillery.com/products/stills/essential-still/

It Seems like a nice enough still. Its not very big, but I am fine with that. Small mashes and small distillations will allow me to experiment more and it won't take up too much space. It seems reasonably priced to me.

However, I do have a couple concerns. The first is that i cant find ANY info about it outside their site. I think they are fairly new so that could be the reason, not sure tho. The second is that it says you can use it use it on a stovetop, I wanted to make sure that it would be safe to do so. Finally it says that the angle of the top of the column can be adjusted so that the distillate will be lower ABV but with more flavor, or more pure with a higher ABV - ranging from an end product of 50%-94% alcohol. I wanted see if any one might know how accurate this claim is and how well that would actually to control the ABV of the distiallate.

If anyone has any info about this Still please let me know. It seems solid, but in some ways to good to be true.
Also if anyone has and suggestions for a good starter still please let me know. Id like to buy one, i don't think i could build one.

P.s. I am most interested in making Rum, whiskey, or schnapps over vodka or neutral spirits. I have read that this means i want a pot still. The one above is a reflux but seems to claim to do the job of both a pot still and a reflux Still. Is that possible?

I'm unsure about the design. do you have any better pics of it?

aside from that though, 3 litres is simply too small. I would really encourage you to avoid that. personally, I think 25l is the minimum for a practical still.

I'd say dubious, avoid.

Steve, I would either build one yourself if possible, or put a request for someone in your area willing to build you one, you will end up with a far better and cheaper still.

I'd say that it's a 3 gallon/12 liter boiler... And while that size would be alright for experimentation, I'd also suggest building rather than buying if at all possible...

Thanks guys, I do see the the appeal of building one. I just don't have the tools or the space to do so right now. BUt i won't be buying or building one until i move(hopefully soon) so maybe i would be able to put one together then then. Either Way I will steer away form this one there just isn't enough info available about it.

This Brewhaus one looks nice but it seems like it'd be to big to use inside... I'll probably be living in an apartment for awhile.
