So, how many hydrometers have you broken?

I just broke my third.

You never forget your first. I set it on a not-so-level shelf and helplessly (hands full) watched it roll off onto a concrete floor.

Second. A fermenting hydrometer (or whatever you call it). I put in the fermenter with the thermometer problem, heater and piece of tubing. I washed, bleached, rinsed everything together. Somewhere along the line the top broke, but I didn't notice it. Later put it in my new wash and it dropped to the bottom like a rock. I was shocked. It took a while to figure out that one.

Third. I was diluting in a glass bottle. I kept adding water, the stupid thing wouldn't float. Pulled it out...it was full of liquid. I guess you shouldn't use them as a stirrer.

It pisses me off that I am impelled to reply to this post knowing full well the Murphy's Law train is going to fuck me up with more broken glass.

smashed 2 trial jars though,one of them i smashed after rinsing it out before the first time using it.

I still have the same ones now for 10 years. also have a set of professional but they do not count as their not used much.
on the other hand I have broken several the eprouvettes.

im on my second one, i dropped the first one i had and it didnt break, but when i turned around to pick it up i stepped on it and that was all she wrote
