Plums + Sloes?

It's the start of the autumn and there's loads of fruit on the trees. I'm collecting all the plums I can of various types. I've got three different types in there at the moment and I was thinking of adding some sloes. Sloes are related to plums but before I put them in is there any reason why you don't hear a lot about sloe wine? Is there anything wrong with them?
