stripping run abv

Post by suburban hillbilly »

Hi I am in the process as I wright this message of doing a stripping run (my first ever) on a gallon o pugis rum recipe in my baby 6 quart pot still.
My question is That i was under the immpression that I would only achieve around 35 percent abv. As you can see by the picture that it is reading somewhere around 60 abv.
I checked the instructions with my alcometer and it states that it measures alcohol by volume.
So Do you think that my meter may be faulty or is this quite the norm. The product does taste strong. Also if it is in the 60's I suppose I should be diluting it for the second distillsation?
All the best sh
