Spud, I'm almost afraid to comment on this topic, but 1/4" is very small and may cause you problems. May I suggest that you go to this topic http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopi ... 2#p6858182 and read it.

I am not being critical in any way, just trying to guide you to some information that you may find helpful.

I paid $10.00 pm for 1/4 copper, I wish I could get it for $6.00

I'd say the SS is dearer than you expected because it's annealed, dont be so tight and just get 3 or 4 meters of it

Could you let me know where you get it from mate, I'd be interested in about 5 meters for my new project.

My mistake Spud. For some reason I thought pot still.

We tested a 3/8" stainless tube condenser (made out of 2m of the stainless) last night - it let product through with a 10$ wash and 1500w, 2" column.. maybe not ideal?

Seamless stainless tube is pretty easy to work though, as it turns out..

A question out of let field - are there any problems welding 304 grade stainless to 316 stainless? The 304 is a lot cheaper than the 316.

Not with tig, at least..

They pretty much weld the same. And just fine to each other. 316 is a little more resistant to chlorine and very harsh environments like continuous salt spray.
My 2 inch 304 has been completely unaffected in my column, its about a year old now and has lots of runs on it, looks like it did the day I finished it.
