Oak Stix from Brewhaus - product review

Post by SuburbanStiller »

Brown Santa just dropped off a little present from Brewhouse: Oak Stix. This has to be the more ridiculous thing in the world to buy for you guys that have forests of oak growing right outside your door, or cords of it stacked up in your wood pile. I wish I did.

I searched around and couldn't find more info about exactly what you get aside from their website that says "approximately 1 lb.". I was too lazy to email them for details so I just ordered a couple.

Good prompt delivery, easy website, no hassle. Happy customer.

Each piece is 3" by 8" and 3/8" thick, with five pieces in each bag. Two pieces in each bag had those holes drilled in them, I didn't do that. This is two orders, $5.79 each. Nice price. Shipping was over 9 dollars. Ouch. I wish my local brewshop carried them. The website says they are Balanced Toast. I don't really know what that means as I have never dealt with oak before. The surface is very rough like a fence slat, not smooth like oak furniture. The smell is very light, nothing at all like the overpowering scent of pine or cedar.

Anyways, just wanted to give some more details. I don't have anything oaking yet, but I want to be ready once I get some worthwhile hooch.
