I worked on the theory of a 4-6 inch gap between plates, and each plate being a point of reflux. The dephlagmater is also a point of reflux, so it was built with this in mind. It could work just as well with the plates at the bottom of the column, I don't know, it just seemed a logical place to place them.

Old dog is definetaly HD's Jessie James, he makes the prettiest flutes in the distilling world. I've been a member here for a year or 2, and love pictures of copper art work, Old dog and Condensificator, and Still crazy are some of the best. Mud

Very, Very Nice. Might I ask if you bought or made the sight glasses? Any close up pictures of them?
P.S. What does the inside of your dephlegmator consist of, is it just a coil? If so how tight of a coil? Thanks.

It's so purdy, it'd almost be a shame to fire it up and get it all tarnished.

I am having a read of the compleat distiller. I'm trying to work out what sort of still you have. Does it just to use plates instead of packing and in principle is a compound still? or is it a variant of the Coffey patent? why does it have sight glasses?
I didn't realise you could laquer it, is it safe to do so? because that's what I would want if I went copper, keep it shiny.
