The Last One is a documentary about a moonshiner.
I watched it a couple of days ago with Cornellius and we liked it very much!
Has anybody watched it?

Seen it a couple of times pretty good touches on just about everything.

There's a few threads around here about Popcorn and that documentary.

I was just wondering how much would a person pay for his hooch. Not hooch like he made, but actually made by his hand in an earth-dug still workins like in that picture. I rekkin I would pay $200 for a pint, mebbe more as long as you could prove provenance. Which would be difficult as he's dead now. Just to know how my stuff compares to a famous real old timer moonshiner's likker.

Everybody don't go emailing me asking to sell me some of your own likker. I know I can make decent hooch. I'm just curious and competitive to see how my stuff compares to the stuff them good ole boys made in the good old days.

yeah it's very enjoyable.

Popcorn was indeed an interesting character. I met him once in Maggie Valley, NC yeas ago. I know what he did was against what we stand for here and our rules we live by, but he seemed to make a safe product and put in craftsmanship. I hate he went out the way he did with the federal charges and all, but he truly pushed over the limits of the law multiple times and by leaps and bounds... I think being caught with 800 gallons of product the last time. I do enjoy watching him though... he was a truly one of a kind.

wow! you actually met him?! That's great I wish I could met him too, however it's too late he has passed away now, what a pity

cg, popcorn wrote a book called "Me and My Likker". It was out of print for a time, but recently went back in print as a revised edition that Popcorn did just before he died. He left a stock of numbered/autographed copies for his family to sell. Its a spiral bound b/w book with popcorns own writing...mostly disjointed thoughts and stories...but there's lots in there about making shine..including a couple of his standard recipes. I think it may be still available if you are interested.

Popcorn was a local celebrity and quite the character. Johnny Knoxville did the last interview with him...(but warning: language is explicit and he tends to get raunchy) ..should you care to watch it. He had JK in stitches the whole time. (Just do a google search for Johnny Knoxville Popcorn interview).

I posted a version of one his recipes mentioned in his book in one of the recipe forums if you are interested in trying it.

Also, I agree he is quite the character! He's got the style for sure!
