Have any of you guys ever stopped cookin gin the middle of a run , and continued the following day ? Using a stainless boiler , with DWWG recipe. Don't know if there are any adverse effects from a start and stop or not. Can't think of a reason that it would be a problem , but would like a second or third opinion. I know it has got to be extremely unconventional , but lets face it.... the hobby we have chosen aint zackly conventional.
Thanks

I've done it. Just pick up where you left off and go by taste and smell. I'm assuming your using pot still, if it's a reflux that may be a different matter.

I've done it lots of time with my potstill without any problems. Just like ducky said.
Simple potstiller. Slow, single run.
(50 litre, propane heated pot still. Coil in bucket condenser - No thermometer, No carbon)

Re: Stopping in the middle of a run ?
It's a short (24") reflux. Im getting pretty close to time for the tails to be coming on anyway , so I may give it a shot. If it flubbs up , I wont have lost that much , but I will know if it will or won't work. Most days I'd trade a half pint of hooch for some good knowledge anyway.
The only thing I can think of going wrong is the packing in the column imparting that skanky copper taste.
I reckon we'll see by lunch tomorrow.
Thanks

Re: Stopping in the middle of a run ?
I stopped once with my boka. I actually shut down to come inside and check here on HD if I was running my rig right (I was). I didn't totally let it cool off but it did cool enough to drop all the vapor. It took about an hour to get everything back to refluxing proper, the rest of the run went fine.
I have shut down and restarted twice on my pot. Once toward the end of a nice little corn flavored sugar wash; it went to smelly tails and never came back to anything drinkable. Another time I had to stop in the middle of my failed allgrain corn mash that went from bad to an ungodly putrid mess.
My experience is make sure you can finish a run once you start. Don't neglect safety or your family to keep a run going, but do your best to make sure you have the time and materials to let it run its course.
