mashing prickly pear cacti

I'm looking for info on how to make a prickly pear mash. Not the pear (although I will want to make wine next year) but the pad.
Any info about fermenting the pad for distillation will be appreciated, thanks in advance.
I'm just starting down the ethanol road, I plan on using it for power generation as well as in my car.
