Made a batch of All Bran whiskey, 75% abv. Put in medium toasted oak chips for two weeks. Took the oak out through a sieve. Diluted one bottle to 47% abv. Liquor was perfectly clear, amber color. Put the bottle in the freezer. Thawed the bottle a couple of days later and hey! there was a 1/2" layer of very fine brown pulp on the bottom of the bottle. Anyone has a clue?
Am now filtering again through a coffee filter, color is a less dark amber now, filter covered with fine brown stuff.

tannins come to mind,it is good to remove them as they can be bitter depending where they came from.

Why did you put it in the freezer?

The coffee filter would be the filter of choice if you want your likker nice n clear.

I'd recommend oaking your booze at 60-65%, you'll find it produces a lot better whiskey.

Hooch, I've put it in the freezer because I found with other drinks (aquavite and other enhanced liquors and liqueurs) that it integrates the flavors of the different components much better. I must admit that the woody taste I found in the oaked All Bran whiskey was softened after freezing and filtering off the wood pulp.

Just curious, how frozen did that bottle get and what is the temp. of your freezer? I had a similar experience with a cloudly batch that I put in the freezer.

My freezer is about -30* C. The liquid froze up completely. It was 48% abv.
