I wish to lodge a formal complaint!
I know the stuff I make is swill and shall, probably, alway be swill.
The home site had recongized the fact that I was only cabable of making swill
and I am proud of the fact that I do only make swill, Thus the homesite was kind enough to lable me as such.
I must, most strongly, protest this degrading new lable of Bootleger!!!!

How many ranks are there and what are the levels?

Ranks are pretty much meaningless. Simply shows how many posts you have made.

Here are the ranks:

Site Admin (no post icount, it is set to UJ).
Novice 0 posts
Rumrunner 50 posts
Swill Maker 100 posts
Bootlegger 250 posts
Trainee 500 posts
Distiller 1000 posts
Master Distiller 1500 posts

So your only 1500 smiley faces from master distiller .I hope some day we do away with ranks.

The ranking system does'nt bother me, I'm here to talk stillin and enjoy the boards...

Sometimes I even grab a jar of shine and join in with the party...

ArkyJ -- your fine and the post is too. The ranking system is something that has been brought up many times before -- We may be seeing it come to its maturity.

I made the same type posts as I came up through the posting ranks. Take note of your working knowledge base as you transition from one to another. You'll amaze yourself (or not) at how much you gained in a very short amount of time. Personally speaking, I wouldn't won't any other ArkyJ. Keep on posting just like you been. Your post are usually sprinkled with a bit of wit, a bit of experience and a bit of humor -- couldn't ask for more.

Nah kidding. We have similar ranks at the Swedish forum I moderate but the levels change at different levels. Yeah the ranks doesn't mean anything but can be fun sometimes. At least it made ArkyJ giggle for a while

I'll trade you ArkyJ!! My g-pappy was a bootlegger so it kind of would make me proud to follow in the family footsteps.
I am a swillmaker and I have yet to have anything I produced even be considered close to as low as swill... Its all much better than that.

Any 'arbitrary' labels added to post count really does not mean much. Was it 1000 posts of smiles and 'I agrees', or 98 posts that were absolutely packed with new and excellent information?

I actually think the current system, with labels, breed a lot of 'Welcome', 'I agree' ' ' and other similar replies. There have been several that have shot up 10-15 posts a day, often with little content. It is pretty obvious they are shooting for a 'distiller' or master label.

Still drinking out of a jelly jar though... And I still like eating my entire meal using the short salad fork...

I just love this forum, I guess I will always be a novice, cuss I don't talk that much, but for an old guy I sure have learned a lot here. I wondered how we got our handles and now I know. I am sipping on a glass of pretty good stuff that came of that still two days ago. I don't know if it would qualify as sour mash, but it has a nice bite to it.
I have been running this recipe for some months:
one 2 1/2 pound box of white corn meal
ten pounds of sugar
and about half of the backset from the last batch that I let set for a few days after I did a run. I filled a 64 oz jar with 80 %. Getting thirsty so I must go.

Quantity of posts is an indication of interest in this site and serves a useful purpose. Quality is more subjective but this is sorted out in the postings one way or another.
