While not as well known as the big city festivities, the rural Mardi Gras of south Louisiana is a rousing time had by the masses. My son and I drove up on Sunday to my home town of Church Point, Louisiana where we met up with my brother and participated in the Courir de Mardi Gras. At 46yo a 5 hour horseback ride is not the most exciting thing I could think of doing but by 0900 AM and several beers the good times were on. This was my son's first time participating in the ride and we both thoroughly enjoyed it.
