Took my first float trip of the year yesterday. One of my favorite pastimes. I've got a 15 ft. Buffalo canoe and live in the middle of some the best floating country in the world. Ive got 4 rivers and at least 25 floatable creeks within 50 miles of my house, probably more. I usually stay within 10 miles of the house and can do a different float every weekend. Yesterday was just me and my new wife. Took bout a 6 hour float, maybe 10 miles, on a certain little creek in the Ozark mountains. Didn't see one other person save a couple of farmers workin near the bank. Life was good. Today I have a severe sunburn.... So who else is floatin this year? Spring is in the air! Cheers!

Sorry no pics this trips. I'm fixin to go buy a waterproof camera so I will get some up. All the creeks have huge blufflines and cave systems everywhere. It's beautiful country.

We have a river we sometimes tube but this time of the year is just too cold! We are leaving on a trip to Hawaii tomorrow and my wife bought an underwater casing for her digital cameral for scuba diving. It's a beauty actually cost more than her camera it was designed for

We are going to try to get down to the Niangua again this year. Didn't get to last year. Like to get down to the Buffalo and float it one of these days. Mulberry would be nice to. Just not enough time and money.

I can get to the Buffalo in about an hour. I've done at least 50 miles from the headwaters down. Too crowded for me. F**in cops everywhere. I like to stick to the back creeks that noone knows about.

I'm a avid paddler myself. Been doing it since I was 5. Only place I feel at home is on the water with a paddle in my hand. All the troubles in the world just slip away with each paddle stroke. Took my 2 boys for their first trip last year. Hope to get a few more in this year.

I use to be an hour away from the Buffalo. Now I'm about 6 hours away. I miss it down there. I use to love fly fishing on the white just below the dam at Grears Fairy. It was 15 min from my house. Now I don't have anything I would want to but a canoe in close to me. The Niangua is 3 hours away we usualy go down in a large group. But yes the cops will jump out from behind trees everywhere. And It is crowded. But it is still a good time.

whats up with the cops? Ive never seen one on a float trip. Did i miss something?

It all depends on where you are. Where we go there are a lot of young adults partying. The cops can spot a bottle a mile away and take a pic then pull you over before you even open it up. And they will be in the most unthinkable spots. Same goes for drugs and underage drinkers.. They don't bother me to much. I carry my whiskey in a flask. Or I buy premix in a can.

No alcohol on the river? I can understand a power boat, but not a canoe.

No you can have alcohol. You can't have any glass on the rivers. They don't want the broken glass for people to cut them selves on.

Trust me, a canoe requires just as much attention as a power boat, if not more. I know, I capsized once or twice myself

Oh, those were the days. Haven't done much since I was a student. Got myself an inflatable canoe last year to relive the youth. Can recommend to anyone with limited storage space.

We went on a two day canoe trip many years ago. NEVER AGAIN it's too bloody dangerous.

Yea you can get drunk as you want you just better not be drinkin it out of glass... Hefty fine. Cans have to be in a foam coozie. The cops are wildlife officers and park rangers. I avoid them whenever possible.....
