Stirring the wort

Hi All,
From reading the site it appears that for best results (1) the fermenter should stay sealed throughout fermentation by using an airlock, and (2) the wort should be stirred during fermentation. My idea for comment is a s/s egg whisk on a s/s tube handle fitted into the fermenter through the lid via a grommet similar to the airlock. Such could be used to work the wort anytime without raising the lid. I envisage a s/s washer welded to the tube to ensure it doesn't hit bottom. Comments please. Has anyone tried this?
Cheers,
