Bitter Almonds
Most of the Gin recipes on HD's parent site use bitter almonds. Unrectified bitter almonds are illegal for sale in the US because a small quanity - say 20 or so - can be poisionous. How important is this ingredient as a gin component, and will regular almonds serve as a suitable substitute?

Re: Bitter Almonds
I just use regular almond, not exactly the same taste but similar enough for Gin

You could probably use a few apricot kernels, perhaps along with some regular almonds.Kifi wrote:Most of the Gin recipes on HD's parent site use bitter almonds. Don't know whether you can buy the apricot kernels but you could wait for summer....
