Flinty,wet stone, wet gravel note in distillate

I'm running a heavy sugar and light corn mash. I'm getting good fermentation rates the yeast is happy and finishing out just fine. I have noticed that sometimes I get a pronounced Flinty note in the finished spirit. Anybody ever get this or know what may be causing it I'd even settle on how to get rid of it(aeration)? Could it be tired copper inside the still?

The flinty note isn't in the mouth just the nose. I am running a friends still the still is 100% copper no scrubbers one bubble cap tray, and its not direct fire. I was thinking it could be that the copper needed to be reconditioned/refreshed or maybe from his prior run but still its strange. I'm aerating the hearts right now to see if it blows off. Any other thoughts?

Well I would do a vinegar cleaning run and a water run if you don't know the last time it was done or whats been in it. I don't know if it'll help but it can't hurt and it's at least a place to start.

Do you get this "flinty note" (never knew flint had a smell) or "wet gravel road smell" from every one of your collection jars or just one or two at the beginning or end of the run...???
What are you using for a boiler...???

Is it all through the run or only at the end?
Sometimes I get a wet dog smell and sometimes a wet cardboard smell towards the end of my run. I guess one man's wet dog/cardboard smell could be another man's wet gravel smell. Truth be told, I haven't spent much time smelling either wet dogs or wet cardboard..

Its not the tails run its in the hearts dead in the middle of the run. I know that I'm cutting my feints right its neither heads or tails. Tater this will sound funny but if you suck on a pebble you might get the wet stone note I'm talking about. As a boy I would suck on small stones to stop me from being thirsty while out on hikes.
