2" bok

Post by Kal »

I can't take credit for making this still, that goes to OD who did some outstanding work

Gave this bok a vinegar cleaning run today with 8L vinegar + 16L water. I used a few loops of ptfe plumbers tape to seal the connection between the keg and the still and it worked a treat, no leaks at all (thanks again to OD for the tip :D ). I used some of the same tape to seal in the temp probe as well.

The digital thermometer was steady at 99.5 celcius through the cleaning run, so the thermometer is within it's stated 1% tolerance.

I did notice the smallest amount of vapour escaping from the top, this happened both at 1L/min cooling flow (coolant output 47 C) and 2L/min cooling flow (coolant output 30 C) so I put a little bit of copper mesh in the condensor between the coldfinger and the coil to disturb the vapour path a bit and it worked a treat. After this there was no more vapour to be seen escaping from the top.

I have a couple of carboys of WPOSW that will be ready to strip soon in my pot still then I will get a couple more going to build up for a spirit run in a few weeks time. My next appointment however will the the token sacraficial run with some cheap cask wine :)
