Hey All!

I've been brewing beer for a couple years now, and decided its time to start distilling. I've been to all the distilleries in kentucky, and just read through the very helpful book "moonshine!" I am looking to primarily make bourbon and other whiskeys, so I think I'll probably go with a pot still. I was going to start with a "wok still" but after reading about it on this site, i've reconsidered that.

I don't think i'll be able to build my own still since I live in a small apt in brooklyn, and have no tools, space or experience at all. Based on what I've read here, I'm considering buying a still from brewhaus, but i'd love your feedback. Of course, if anyone around NY might be looking to sell (or build) a still, pls let me know.

Hi Brewer and welcome, I haven't done any business with Brewhaus but haven't heard anything bad about them either, I think they are a pretty good outfit. I have done business with a few others some good some bad so it is a great idea to throw your ideas out for coment on this forum. I have a 13 gollon reflux from milehi distillers and love it, you might look at their web site too. The nice thing about many of the reflux stills is that you can run it as a pot still as well and you have the ability to make a larger varity of drink. Keep us posted on what you decide. Welcome to the forum, before you decide to buy you might want to check out Rad's small still design as I believe he uses it in an apartment.

Welcome to the forum! There are a lot of stove-top designs out there, but without some tools it will be difficult to construct them yourself.

Check out the Classifieds forum http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=8 first, then google for other vendors to do some comparison shopping before committing to a particular product. Sounds like a pot still would definitely be the way to go if your primary goal will be whiskey and other "flavorful" spirits. Don't be afraid to post pictures of what you find to ask for advice on specific stills you come across.

I too am primarily a bourbon drinker and ultimately that will be my focus. A little jealous of your experience touring distilleries - on my bucket list!

I was very impressed with my EE from Brewhaus. I went with the HC after reading suggestions on this board. I haven't run it much yet, but I think it fits what I was looking for. I can use it as a pot still for stripping or for running whiskey, then I can switch it to reflux for neutrals or to make neutrals from the heads & tails of my Whiskey runs.
