Is there any substitutes for malted corn in a shine mash? I cant find anything like corn until late august when the corn starts to sprout? I ran off my sugar and grain wash and that didnt tast real good? Im looking for a better tasting grain mash, but is there somthing else i can use in place of malted corn?
And my 2 gallon still did the job but it took a looong time to run off 5 gallons. It got the job done though for experementing with wash.

get yourself some malted barley at your local home brew shop. Then you can convert the corn starch with the barley enzymes. I think you need at least 10% of your grain bill to be malted.

Or you could just buy amylase enzyme at the brew store.

Ill order some of thoes since theres none anywhere close to here i dont think? Well when the corn season is here i should be able to malt my own right? I really dont have any experience with the grains? I usually used reflux and fractionation still and made neutral spirits with no flavor at all?

It's easier to just stop by wal-mart and pick up a bottle of Bean-0. It dont take but a coupla drops so a bottle will last a long time.

after reading home distiller over and over and over again, in some of the old time moonshine recipes it dosent even call for anything malted? Only in some of the sweet and sour mash whiskey recipes?
