G'day everyone,
I had a read of a few forums but more specifically with my setup I'm using turbo sugar , turbo carbon, turbo clear and triple distilled yeast, I have a 30 litre fermenter so I'm either using 6 or 8 kgs of sugar?? Also have a still spirits turbo air still (4 litre version)...ive read on here that hbs try to sell the carbon filter systems to make more money out of you BUT if I was to use the triple distilled yeast...do I still have to use a filter system or does the yeast and air still do a good enough job??

In my experience, Turbo's can work fine for making a neutral. I would go for the 6 kilo recipe. I will put less of a strain on your yeast and give you a better tasting product. Did you read about making cuts? That's important. Also, an easy way around "filter systems", is just to buy activated carbon, put in in hot water, throw out the hot water after an hour, and repeat that 3 times. After your now better activated (and cleaned) carbon is a bit dryer, put in one Tablespoon per liter at 45%/40% strength drink. Let is sit for 2 weeks, stirring every day. Than filter, dilute to whatever you want to drink it (with distilled water) and let it sit for another 2 days to rest ... Well, just the way I do it/did it. Am going to switch to Rad's Gerber recipe soon to make some more comparisons.

Odin's advice is spot on.

I've used SS TD with carbon and turbo clear, and it works really well - rivals Gert Strand's Black Label for distillate quality (that's if you must use a turbo). Took just over a week to ferment completely. Most sugar washes look slightly brown when they're done, but yours will look white as a sheet because of the carbon in the ferment. The only downside of using carbon in the wash itself is that SS carbon is very fine, and even getting a little bit on yourself creates a real mess. I buy it sometimes myself, but using EC1118 yeast and a cool ferment will take a couple of weeks longer, but the quality will be just as good, you won't need carbon in the wash, and it will cost 99 cents instead of 9.99. If you go that route you'll still need to filter afterwards, or put carbon in the distillate as Odin suggets.

Jamie, I just re-read over your post and while Odin and Kifi are trying to explain how they use carbon, I see some reading on your part may be in order.

---turbo sugar ?

Don't take this the wrong way but, the new distillers reading lounge would be a good place for you to spend some time familiarizing yourself with this hobby. You will find that you get lots more help if people here can tell that you have done a little research into distilling.
