Smell

Hi, thank you for an informative and entertaining website.

I'm from Canada and I'm in the process of building a still. I'm from the city and I'm a little concerned that the odor coming off my still will make problems from nosey people.

Any advise will be appreciated.

if you stick to the sugar wash/turbo yeast methods the smells will be minimal and not easy to place.

I also live in Canada and have been distilling for 5 yrs. now. I have never had anyone complain about the smell. I really don't think that too many people this day and age even know what discarded mash smells like. I wouldn't worry!

You could always throw in some potpourri and boil that a bit just before throwing it out. that should freshen up the place a bit.

unless you're talking about a large amount, i am not sure the smell will be an issue. of course, i dont know your circumstances. your mash-in will probably put off more odor than your spirit run.

It was the whiskey talkin', not me.
