How tall is too tall for a column?

I am putting the finishing touches on my first build. I have a 1/2 barrel keg boiler with a 3500W/240V heater running on 120V with the triac/dimmer control found elsewhere here. The column is topped with a boka and 8 inch dual coil condenser with a cold finger. I currently have a 48 inch column under the boka, but I wonder if it will be too tall.
What are the pros and cons of column height?
