The program said it was illegal to make moonshine, I guess that legal part in the 3rd paragraph is referring to those that have purchased the proper licensing and permit to make and sell liquor. PS this message should be moved as it does not belong in the welcome center.

Moonshiners tells the story of the people who brew their shine - whether in the woods behind their house using camouflaged equipment or legally in their garages for local distribution.

Just a slight inaccuracy there... Under no circumstances, even with permits, would it be legal to distill in a "garage"... It requires a separate building with an area specifically designated for distillation purposes... I don't think backing out the Buick and firing up the still fulfills the governments guidelines for producing potable spirits... But what are we to expect from a syndicated channel fighting for ratings...

Same here in the UK Rad and the distillery has to be a designated distance from any other dwelling or work place...

True but we have a distillery in a garage in Washington, it has been converted to a distillery they said that the building had to be detached from the house with a fence around it. The house is not occupied either hence my earlier comment I am sure there are restrictions other than what I said as well.

When I start to look into the Law pertaining to getting a license here in the UK, there are just too many hurdles to get over. The red tape is another issue Bushman. Guys have actually asked me why they cannot practice the art before forking out the cash for premises, ect. They don't want to break the law they tell me, but they do, everytime they fire up a 20L wash...

I just tell them to fly-low, don't draw attention to yourself or others, make enough for yourself and a little to age and dont keep large stocks...
Only apply for a license once you have the necessary £50,000 to invest into the enterprise...

I'm happy where I'm at with the hobby. If the law changed tomorrow it would only mean I wouldn't need to distill behind doors anymore...

And Damien Has his whole, entire, complete house attached to his still,,,,,,that is a legal business........

The inconsistency in statutes and in knowledge regarding all things distilling is comical.....My ABC reps were very friendly and as helpful as they could be,,,,but they were not knowledgeable on several levels,,,,never mind the makin part. Including the attorney charged with interpreting the statutes...Real nice guy btw.

Its almost as if the entire country has its head in the sand,,,,,like a conspiracy cover up or sumpthing.........
Maybe the secrecy is what keeps the price up??
