Hey all,
Been reading up off/on for quite a while as I've tinkered with the idea of doing a micro (one day down the road). I figured I needed to get started if I was ever going to do it. Ill start off doing home fuel for my equipment in order to learn mashes, ratios, amounts, and such before taking the next step.
Started on my plant and permits and figured I'll build an OD flute. I have some 6" type L that I'll build a 36" tall 6 plate column topped with a 8" shotgun deflag and then dump that into a 12" liebig sitting on a 12" shogun as a final condenser. I'll be making additional plates sections to add in later if I need to in order to get the GPH I want. Overkill on the final condensers?? could be, but if I'm eventually going to be feeding this beast from 50-100+ gallon batches, I "should" be able to run it pretty hard in order to get a 1.5+ gph flow (would like to see 2-3gph). I'm working on my 10 gallon boiler now... The Liebeg will be fed from the output of the deflag BTW, it won't be too cold but it will start the cooling process. If things work, I'll be adding boilers in order to make about 20 gallons per week. Course, I could be wayyy off in my thinking, and so I'll do mini batches for a while. And, if all goes, well, I'll retool for going micro in a few years as I get closer to retiring, and take what I've learned on this flute for a similar one in the micro. Don't plan to earn a fortune, but have fun with it... In the meantime, figured best to learn to crawl...take some distillery tours, read, attend some classes, do apprenticeship training, if I can as well.
It looks like I was able to include a drawing of what I'm looking to build.
Never distilled, but I enjoy the product, and look forward to learning the craft.
I've got a TIG, Smithy 3-n-1 and shop tools, and love to make stuff.
They don't call me Barking Mad fer nuthin !
