Ok my first 2 batches of sugar wash were.
5 grams red-star champagne yeast.
12.5 lbs sugar
5 gallons of water.
2 tablesspoons of tomato paste.
1 squeezed lemon.
I put each one in a bucket and a ferment lock on it.

One of the buckets was air tight the other i relaized was barely fit on there.
The one with the tight lid is producing air It bubbles now and then.
THe other one i just can't tell i'm sure its finding other ways out .
ANyhow does anyone have any idea when these should be done fermenting?

Thanks

There are too many variables to say for sure how long it will take.

ball park, If everything is in good shape, I would expect it to take around 2 weeks, but I have had washs with 10-12% potential take over a month, using EC 1118 which I think is the same yeast you used just a different brand.

my first batch was:
2l water
1kg sugar
1.5l fruit juice
roughly 65g yeast

small i know, but the biggest container i could find at the time was 5l so i done 1/5 of a recipe from the site.
i got an 18.5l container now so the next lot will be bigger

any idea as to how long this should take, bubbles have slowed right done now to around 1 to every 1-2 minutes

and also how do i find out the sugar thingy (cant remeber what you call it sorry :( )

thanks.

The rate of reaction is dependant on the wash temperature, it will nearly take twice as long at 18 C for example than it will at 28 C or so. There are calulators on this website for determining wash time.
