Use DWV fittings with DWV pipe?

Use DWV fittings with DWV pipe?
I have a piece of 3" DWV pipe. When ordering the fittings do I have to use DWV fittings or will regular 3" copper fittings work? I have searched but can't find a straight foward answer. I do know that they are a little cheaper.
