2" Mini-Still

Post by fahdoul »

Fired up my new 2" Mini-Still for the first time. It's just a scaled up Bokabob Mini-Still, 34" high and 2" in diameter, with 24" of packing. It goes on the same sink drain that my 1-1/2" Mini-Still did so I can use the same boiler - by gently hammering the column down onto the brass sink nut I was able to expand it just enough to get enough overlap to solder. The coil is the same double helix coil I made the 1-1/2" version, wrapped with a bit of pot scrubber to fill the extra space, and seems to work just fine.

I really like the 2" version. It's faster, of course, and takes better advantage of the output available from the stove burner, but also seems more stable and less fussy than the smaller one. This should not be taken as criticism of the little one, which is a terrific rig, and, if fate hadn't dropped a piece of 2" copper pipe in my arms, I would still be using very happily.
