I know there was a thread on this a few months ago but I don't remember anyone posting after having been through the tours, my girl friend and I are heading down there this Saturday to go through as many as we can in a day, it's only a 2 hour drive from home but I do want to make the most out of it. Any body been through the tours and have any thoughts or advice, that might make the trip more productive or fun?

That thread was posted by Bushman, I think this is it. Those distilleries are just across the river from me (10 min. most) and I still haven't made there.

Yes, I tried to do the tours but only made it to a couple of the distilleries as I had a commitment early in the morning and had to get back to Vancouver after the tours so didn't want to get to tipsy as those ramps and bridges in and out of Portland can be a problem.

I know what you meen about the ramps and so on in Portland Bushman, we are heading out early and are going to dedicate the day to touring the distilleries and if need be we'll just grab a room for the night and head home Sunday morning. I'll try to bring home a report on a couple more. OMD

3.5 hours from home Spring salmon are starting to run as well
Been to the Clear Creek distillery and it was a fun tour - By all means pass on the evergreen swill they make!
However the MaCarty's single is very good and the wife loves the Cranberry Liquor.
I made some neutral and soaked it in cranberry for 10 days, Strained it off twice.
Wifey says it is as good as Clear Creeks and was thrilled when I told her it was only 14 dollars a gallon vs. 30 bucks a fifth.
I had to laugh when we were there and the tour guide told me that they got the color by fermenting on cranberries.
I asked her if the color stayed the same once they turned it to steam - she said " What you see is just how it comes out of the still"
Still a great time

I'd like to make it a fishing trip too Bushman, but not this time, we are booked on a spring Chinook trip a little later though. And thanks for the input coyote, my wife like to soak my hooch with pineapple for a week or so, she drinks that stuff like she just crossed the Sahara,

I tried it and it aint bad. OMD

Yep had a 1/2 gallon mason jar of Cranberry in the back refer and she was get after it, then I came back into the house and she is cutting up
lemons and limes putting them into 1/2 pint jars and pouring 160 proof over them.
I suggested that perhaps she would like to cut that back to 80 proof . . .
She got really friendly after about 4 glasses of Cranberry - I think I really like that stuff!
Got to go make more

Well we made it down to Portland over the weekend and had a good time touring distillers row. It was fun talking to all the different distillers and sampling their goods. All of these outfits are pretty small and Ma and Pa opperated. Got to talk with a couple of the owners and they were pretty informative but a bit closed mouth about a few things. Got some great pics though, thought you fellers might enjoy some. OMD

How were the products? Stainless stills, yikes, I hope he's copper packing. Plastic fermenters, yikes again! At least the second one has a Christian Carl rig.

Nothing wrong with plastic fermenters but I did see at one of the distilleries in Portland that they used plastic hoses for their product collection into plastic containers!

Ya, I saw that to Bushman, the plastic take off hose and catch contaner, but all their product tasted pretty damn good. I use plastic to fermint in too and a stainless still, with copper packing and I'm damn happy with my product.
