I have a Cadco KrS2 that I got for free from a trade, and was trying to use it this afternoon for a cleaning run on my 3" column w/ 15.5 keg.

The problem was that the water was heating up very slowly even on 'High', and never did completely come to a boil. After 3 hours of messing around the top of the column was only at 95% !!!

Is there any way to disable the thermostat on these in order to get the full heat range from them?

Unfortunately bypassing your 1500-watt Cadco KR-S2 hotplate thermostat and using a controller with the 1500-watt Cadco KR-S2 hotplate will not provide enough heat to effectively operate your 15.5-gallon boiler. A 1500-watt Hotplate just isn’t going to heat a 15.5-gallon stainless steel beer keg Still boiler with a 3-inch column.

Suggest considering a 220volt 4500-watt internal element and a controller to heat your 15.5-gallon boiler.

Good call coaster. I completely overlooked the 15.5 gal keg detail. My 2000w electric hotplate barely heats my 6 gallon washes. I switched to 15.5 gal kegs with propane until I get my element hooked up.

Well, would a propane Bayou Burner do better?

I have one that I use for crawfish boils, and it heats my 10 gallon pot in about 30 minutes. I usually turn down the flame once I get a rolling boil, and I only use about 1 pound an hour of propane. Very efficient in my opinion.

That's what I use under my keg. Once up to temp I back the flame WAY down for the balance of the run.

Sounds good. I think I'll try that, and use my hotplate for my fish fry pot. It's only 4 gallons.

My 15.5 keg has one 5500 heater at 220v and one 2000 heater at 110v, takes 35 min to start producing !
