Well folks I just got the results of a great taste test. A VERY close friend of mine has a close friend of his visiting here from Russia. He brought a bottle of his favorite Russian Vodka with him, so I donated a bottle of my best vodka to them for a one on one taste test. The results are in and they both agreed that if mine wasn't just as good it was very close. Makes me proud

Never had it, but intend to try to find it at Specs tonight. If a Russian uses it as a benchmark, I have to try.

OMD,
You got a splendid result! Many Russians drink what they can get their hands on, but they DO know how to make vodka.
Here's a Diplomat description:
"
Description:
GOLD for Diplomat in premium league "Grand Vodka Masters 2007" and 2008.
Although new to the UK Diplomat is one of the oldest and most established of the Russian Vodkas.
Originally commissioned in 1721 by Tsar Peter the Great as a gift for King Phillipe V of Spain.
Still 100% produced in St Petersburg at the Liviz distillery, and made from the finest wheat and purest spring water, Diplomat is a fully rounded vodka with just a hint of pepper to the taste.
Five times distilled and then charcoal filtered, Diplomat recently won the acclaimed title of Grand Master at the world vodka masters, beating all other category winners including Belvedere, Akvinta and Legend of Kremlin!
"
Congrats!
Odin.

You are welcome!
I think you can actually beat Diplomat. Ferment an All Bran (with a little less All Bran), pot still the beer, fractionate the low wines. It won't be as neutral as what you drank before, but might have a slight mouthfeel of wheat left. And I think that is what most vodka's do as well. The Russian and Polish ones I mean. Don't know Diplomat myself though. I do know my Hungarian family inlaw prefers my All Bran Vodka to their much apreciated Prins Eristov (which is by the way less top shelve than Diplomat).
Cool runnings my friend! And congrats on your success once more!

I have made the all bran style before but didn't like it as much as the birdwatchers, but I did the all bran with a single reflux run, the bird watchers I pot still first then do a second spirt run. I'll have to retry the all bran the same way.

Might be a question of taste. Some like their voddy really neutral. Nothing beats Birdwatcher's, I guess. I did it once, and did not like it. Too neutral for my palate (man, I love to use those "expensive" words! Do I get extra credits for them?). If you only fractionate an All Bran, you (or at least: I) get something in between a light whiskey and a heavy vodka. First potstilling it from 12/13% tot 40% and then fractionating is what I do to get a really good vodka.

+1 Odin. That's why I run it with a quick reflux and save a jar of the hearts out for a light whiskey. Then combine all the rest with a few runs. And reflux the crap out if it. For a nice vodka.
I gota get some going soon. The wife has been hounding me for some.
