Just trying to get my head around all parts related to a still

I am currently looking at the dephlags that are being made or fitted and would i be right in thinking this is a replacement item for a leibeig condersor ,
Are they more effeicient in their design or is it required for a type of alcohol ?
I saw a shotgun style one on the forum in detail but still looking around to find other styles in detail ,

A delphlag is a partial condenser used to induce reflux. Some vapor goes through it to your product condenser depending on how much cooling flow you put throu it.

Yes the dephleg is used to first load the plates with liquid on tbe plated column. And then manage head temps to acheive One's desired {potential} ABV.

Tbe shot guns are a popular choice because they offer a goodly amount of surface area for good knock down power and occupy less space.

So would it be postioned above the plates In the same way as a reflux coil and the liquid visible in the sight glasses say on a flute would be the result of what has dropped downdward from the dephleg , ?

I am starting to picture my first still in my head a bit easier now , i need to read a lot more though before the fabrication starts ,
I take it the flow of coolant to the dephlap should also be adjustable so as to assist in optimum perforfance ?

And the coolant flow would be in the bottom (excuse the expression) and out of the top ,?

The coolant flow really should be a counter flow for better efficacy. In the top out the bottom. But many go in the bottom and out the top to avoid air locks and draining issues. On the scale we are working with both have been proven to work. If designed correctly.

When in doubt, it's pronounced "hoochie pucker", or "doohickey"...

Back on topic, a dephlegmator is intended for use as a variable condenser whereas a liebig, as is the case with most other condensers, is intended to be used to knock down 100% of the condensation...

Kinda get a tickle spot when I say hoochie pucker.

just to confuse things more...phlegm is actually pronounced "flem" as in (de-flem-ator) with the accent on the first syllable. There really isn't a "short" for it, so whatever works or gets the point across is fine.

EDIT : Addition.....and it is correctly spelled Dephlegmator (ie., phlegm). Apologies to OP for not addressing that directly earlier.
