Why we do it

Haven't even considered this until lately. I've been known to have a sixpack sit in the fridge for over a month. It ain't like I need it. Seems like the older we get the more laws there are to skin you out of anything you might have been able to accumulate. My State now sends a form to fill out about mandatory insurance anytime you make a vehicle title transfer. If you buy a 'non-runner' you have to appeal within 30 days to not insure it. Miss the 30 days and the title is suspended till you pay a $200 fine. Not even sure it's legal to junk it. Guess Stilling's just my stand for good old civil disobedience.

Don't get me started on Medicare

Wow, thought my state was hell for laws but we don't have that one yet, gota have insurance but they don't check until you get pulled over. Bought an old pickup a while back for $2500 and when I went to change the title they wanted me to pay tax on $3800 because thats what their book said it was worth, I had to through a fit, have a bill of sale and raise hell to just pay on the $2500 that I actually paid for the rig.

Here in New York your insurance is mandatory tied to everything... Have a lapse of insurance and you get fined for the number of days uninsured, lose your plates for at least that many days, can have your drivers license suspended, and maybe even get your birthday taken away... Proof of insurance is required just to register a vehicle and get license plates...
Sales tax for a vehicle can be either by sales receipt or Blue Book, depending on the mood of the DMV clerk... You can pay a dollar for a vehicle, like gifting from a parent, and have to pay sales tax on thousands of dollars of Blue Book value...
Born Free... Taxed to Death, and then some...

The reason I do it started in 1972.
A friend gave me a swig of some shine they had just brought back from Virgina.
GAG CHOKE PUKE it was terrible.
I knew not all shine could not be this bad or no one would drink it.
So I decided to give it a try. it took me few years to get started but my first was 1000 times better than what I had tried.
