You didn't tell me you did a internal vent? Do tell more?

How did you go about it?
And now you and Larry got me thinking about a drain system.

I mite just have to go about it a bit different. Damnit now its stuck in my head.

Nice work rc!!! Could you explain your dephleg/control setup a little more? Hard to tell from picks but it looks like you've got a feed coming from the condensor output, that is 2-way valved (I assume one direction goes on to next stage towards depleg and the other side goes to drain?) And then from the depleg side you have another 2-way valve on the input at the bottom..such that you can maintain even pressure in the line prior to feeding it into the depleg. The drain side from the depleg I can't see. Looks like maybe a manifold as well on that side?
I also note you put your therm to measure vapor temp "above" the depleg (instead of below). Also, just looking at it, I bet that thing weighs a "ton". Good job!!!

Nice work RC. The top to bottom drain is something I pioneered on my sexy girl with much success. I love the site glass in the line and trap near bottom.
I use my site tube above my valve without a trap. That allows me to close the valve just enough to keep the tube mostly full and flowing down without gas escaping up. It made a considerable difference in fraction separation and flavor improvement.

You've got me excited to finish my build, damn that copper is beautiful!
Looking at the keg seems you are heating it with propane, what size is the drain valve? I put a 1" on mine.

Yes MR sorry you did pioneer the top drain
Usage, I'll take some better pics of the deplegamator drain system today.
All Good RC. I love to see your work! Keep it up. Where did you source ferules that fit over four inch copper?

I have a 1" drain valve in mine. I like your idea of having a dephlag by pass but a separate valve for the dephlag and just turning the cooling off seems like a simpler solution and would serve the same purpose?

Well your right, it would serve a similar purpose, my thought is I can control the dephleg from a drip to torrent. My last dephleg worked as you said, but fine tuning wasn't an option. Hard for me to explain, but basicly it's all about fine tuning and controll over the dephlegamator.
I agree and hoping to get similar performance and control with mine!

With the gate valves and your anti cavitation device you will have great control. I had similar problems initially on my sexy girl and solved it with a restriction on the exit plumbing. Your device will prohibit siphoning.
I believe you have the thermometer in the correct position as well. How better to understand what you are doing with your dephlag?
I am able to dial my still in with a ball valve by controlling temp above the dephlag. With my drain closed, power at full I push enough coolant through for 100% reflux. When it is time to pull the heads off I decrease coolant just enough to hold head temps at maximum 178 deg. Heads will actually escape by then stop. I can slowly turn down the dephlag to bring temp up 2 degrees and take off all heads by test. Then I...... Sorry, I am rambling on your post but you will much greater control knowing the temp after the dephlag.
Rev it up! Lets hear this baby purr.

rockchucker22 wrote:The dephleg is very responsive! But my ACD has one issue, water wants to shoot out the vent. I put a pencil in the vent then it worked perfect. Does this mean it doesn't need to be vented???
I just means there is enough restriction in the drain for coolant to overcome your device. Did you plug the vent and defeat the unit? I was hoping it was going to work for you. If it does not, restrict the exit flow to keep your dephlag full.
