Reflux Colum
I happened to come accross a 3ft section of 2 1/4 inch copper pipe for free. I was wondering if this is long enough for a reflux colum of if I should make a still with a longer pipe.

That sounds like a good find to me. Fully packed with something like structured mesh it should work pretty well. It means that you would need to add the reflux coil/shell to the top or as an offset to maintain the 3 ft of packing. If, at a later stage, you wanted to extend it then that should be possible, too.
Good luck with whatever you decide and let us know how it goes.
Cheers, Lindsay.
