Mold in the wash... sad face?

Post by D Major »

Hello everyone.
I have a fruit/sugar wash going, oranges. I have been fermenting, slooowly, with the pulp in there, in a 6 gallon carboy.
I think there is mold growing on the fruit cap that has formed. Is it all over for this batch?

I would be tempted to just empty the carboy and get the moldy pulp out. But you all know what happens when you empty a carboy with solids in it. The solids can get mixed in...

I was hoping to save some of this batch for the wine it will make. And maybe distill the rest. (I have another carboy going that shows no signs of mold.) Since there is mold, is the wine out of the question? Is the distillate?

Thanks for your help.
