To bad we no longer have a way of truely supporting our selves beyond fast food or entertainent. It is a terrible cycle as I consider my $8600 property tax note and see county supervisors driving with their wives on Sunday morn,,,,,in gas guzzling (city county or state owned) SUVs........who did you say was on welfare? It is the goobernment and all of their cronies that are on welfare. Food stamps are a piss in the pot compared to what these cocksuckers leagally steel every fuggin day.
Wbo is on welfare indeed?

+ What LWTCS said. Food stamps are up because the economy has been in the crapper for 5+ years. They started up under Bush and have continued up under Obama. There are a lot of hard working people on food stamps today that never would imagined they would ever be.

The ecomomy is in the toilet and has been for a long time. There are many hard working people of many races that would be happy to have a job. ANY JOB.
Unfortunatley it is not going to get better any time soon.

It's not the ones that would be happy to have a job if they could get one that bothers me. It's the ones that won't work and just mooch. And I can't stand waiting in line at a convenience store behind a family of 6 all dressed in brand new clothes. All getting sodas and hot dogs chips and candy bars. Paying with a food stamp card. When I just scraped the last buck twenty of change out of my van to get a bottle of water because I'm working in 100 degree weather. Then you follow them out the door and they get into the newest shinyest car in the lot. And I get into a work van knowing my boots are so wore out I can't step in a wet spot. And I don't own a pair of jeans that don't have a hole in them somewhere. And my kids have two nice sets of clothes. :wtf:

I've gotten government assistance in the past. While I was in the military and my wife was working 3 jobs. And we still qualified. And we needed it. It helped us out a bunch. I was vary grateful for it. But when I see people that don't deserve it. Abusing it. It pisses me off.

And I have to save for 6 months to buy a good supply of meat to last me the next 6 months, ya when you see a cart full of fillets, sea food, and what not every week paid for with my hard paid taxes, yea I get riled, dam it, I am glad I have standards, and some dignity!

And Mr P your damn sure right, I see abuse of the system more and more every day

I know one thing for sure, this November I will be voting

Those folk live in the wrong state because around here they fill their carts with cuts of meat I've never been able to afford, as well as all the rest of the goodies, so they can throw a big ass party - paid for with their benefit card... Makes my blood boil... I work and have to live frugal in an effort to survive and they get to live high on the hog without lifting a finger... And they get almost the same great medical coverage that government officials get... When I need to medical care I have to pay cash, so I don't get nearly as much as I probably should...

It's not one political party or another, it's society in general... Don't get me going... :problem:

Hey guys interested in your take on the new health care system coming in over there . Here in Oz we've had a public health care system since the 60s and I just figured (until only a few yrs back) that all western countries did . but I see in the news there seems to be some considerable resistance to it . I was just wondering how the average joe thinks of it pro's/cons ect. EDIT I don't know what is being introduced over there , the system we have is basically the same for everyone regardless of if your working on benifits rich , poor ect. of cause if you want to jump the cue you can pay for it your self or have some flash private health care

Sorry M R I didn't see the thread pertaining to this I just saw a comment here on it and thought "wonder what you guys think about this social change" . Anyway took a look at the other thread was a very interesting read . I agree with your sentiment in regard to job losses . We use to have a dozen or so workers when they brought in compulsory work cover , all the horse shit did the rounds about everyone getting the sack but as all employers were subject to it it made very little difference in the construction industry apart from an across the board price rise in housing which probably made a slight downturn in work that lasted maybe a month if that , and now all workers are covered for injuries at work so well worth it . Our big thing over here is the stupid bloody carbon tax being introduced tomorrow , Just plain ludicrous as it put Oz out on a limb by herself . I can't see how we can remain competitive with the rest of the world and I can't see how energy and refining companies are going to survive this enormousness burden . We have one of the strongest post GFC economies and it seems to most Aussies that our leaders are deliberately sabotaging it (hope this isn't seen as political as its not intended to be)

No offense meant and none taken TCE. I am pretty disappointed in the selfish attitude of my fellow Americans that think health care should be a privilege not a right.
How is it that the most powerful country in the world does not take care of its citizens? They have brainwashed so many to think that the unemployed are somehow defective lazy people.

Going back to my first post. How is it that my college educated, employed daughter can not afford health care and a condo payment?
We finally have a president that cares about the masses and he is hated for it. ???

I live in the NW and my girlfriend is originally from Georgia. I am shocked at the daily taunts of racism from her southern religious friends on her face book. When I speak with many of you from around the world I am embarrassed at what you must think of us.

Thank you for voicing your opinion about health care. Maybe someone is listening.

I'll probably cop it for saying this but Americans and Aussies and most ex Brit societies are almost the same ppl . We have the same or similar cultures and values and the differences are way fewer than the similarities , having said that I think one place our ppl differ is in our idea of social Justice . People who never work and never will shit everyone but social welfare is very important just look at societies that don't have it . As for intolerance and racism well that I'm afraid is everywhere . Here overt discrimination is illegal so that means it more covert and as my ex is from a minority group therefore my stepsons and my children are I've seen some extraordinary forms of racism that are a constant source of amazement , sadness and shock . yes some ppl here (OZ) comment on the intolerance we hear about in the US but some ppl here need to have a bloody close look at themselves first

A lot of the problem is that what should be a safety net, or perhaps a helping hand, has become so abused. So individuals, through no fault of their own, often get lumped in with individuals who are in fact lazy, no good, bums, and in fact criminals. I switched to a different grocery store simply because it made me so mad seeing the food stamp abuse. Where I live they have closed shop on several stores whose primary business was buying and selling food stamp cards, not selling food.

Our governments, both state and federal, have screwed up our insurance industry. My brother, who lives in Wyoming, has to provide medical insurance for his son, who lives in Texas. Because my brother lives in Wyoming he has to buy the insurance there at three times the cost of what he could buy it in Texas. Simply allowing purchases of insurance nationwide would increase the pool size sufficiently to dramatically reduce costs making insurance of all kinds much more affordable. Allowing customized insurance packages would also reduce costs considerably for many individuals. I'm a single male, why should I have to buy medical insurance that provides birth control and maternity care? If I just want catastrophic insurance and am willing to pay my doctor out of pocket for annual preventive care why shouldn't that be available?

Obama care has completely screwed up the industry, I'm a working white male married raising kids and our insurance has went up 3 times already since they passed the Obama care

Government is at war with the middle class

He has lied so many times to the American people, everybody around the world chiming in a opinion about this probably don't understand the SEVERE abuse on the system the bums and hoodlums we have riding the free train

I can stop all of this and fix our broken system with these simple plans

1-you can't vote if your on welfare (senior citizens who have EARNED social security are exempt) you should not be able to have a opinion (vote) on a system when you yourself don't have an iron in the fire

2-ALL people on welfare MUST get hair drug test (after all if we're paying your way you will live by our rules)

3- if you are on welfare, ou will work 40 hours a week for your spending money with community service style chores

4- any time your on welfare and have to go to the dr you will pay 30$ (just like me on top of the 650$ a month I pay just to have this privilege)

5-welfare checks will not be given to a individual for more that 4 years of their life (this is if we do not accept the rule #3 above)

6- flat tax for EVERYONE. that way illegals can pay into the system (along with drug dealers, prostitutes, And everyone else who uses our system daily and doesn't pay for it) we shouldn't have to pay for your way and ours

These are a good start to cleaning up the system

This does not apply to seniors that have earned their benefits, or working people now on unemployment

Just the no good bums sucking off the system :sarcasm:

I used to be proud of having "NEVER" having drawn unemployment.
I can always get a job, even if it pays less, etc, etc......
BUT ! !
After seeing all the goof-offs drawing it "Legally" I had to ask myself = Am I just being a fool" ???
Nowadays, I do draw unemployment, just cause, tired of living like a fool ..........
Ya only go around once, I'm 64 yrs old, tired of pulling the oxcart .......................
Seems like the name of the game is = If it's legal, you can get away with it.
So, I'm cashing in = PERIOD ! ! ! ! !
My time to kick back .............................

Larry,
This is a good story for ya .......
I decided to retire early (62 yrs old) and got bout $1,100.00 a month ( was out of work = needed the extra income = legal).
The condition was that "IF" I returned to work, they would withhold $1.00 from my benefits for every $2.00 I earned ......
I decided to go to work (welding those portable radar blimp docking stations) for eight months.
Ha ! I got a letter from the SS that they would be withholding my benefits for the next 11 months ! ! !
So, that's my deal, I got to live with it ...........
But, I got this unemployment (which don't count against your SS), and banked enough to get me through the eleven months.
However, being a Union Ironworker, I certainly will keep on working if the damned Union Hall would send me a work
Permit = Unions taking a beating in this recession .......
Be damned if I do, Be damned if i don't.........
I don't have a problem saving my bucks, so, work is better than SS, regardless of how much they withhold, etc.......
Right now, am just kicking back, doin some distillin, goin to the gym, gettin back in shape, etc, etc ........
When I get to 66 yrs old =total retirement = fishin and the easy life ..... (next Jan = retirement from Union = monthly pension)......
I think I got it made, but, never count them chickens, etc, etc..........
Ya gotta start preparing ...........................................

One thing about unemployment though is in a way YOU'VE EARNED IT. You and your employer have paid in to the system, in all fairness it's YOURS. we just have a lot of people on the 3rd and 4th generation not working thinking that we owe them. It's class warfare at its best, hate the rich man for him having what he has while you live in your poor shxxy world. Thank god for rich people , we pretty much all work for one, I've never been to college a day in my life, I bust my ass in the oilfield and I earn everything I get. But a lot of people want something for free (about 49% ) of the country. You older guys drawing some unemployment I'm not by any means preaching to you. Y'all have done your time. If everyone who is capable of working "did their time" we wouldn't be in the crapper right now, he'll if I was there now, I'd buy you a beer and tell you thanks for working and paying your own way

I was leaving the gym yesterday and happened to pass by a couple of our African-American brothers,
and one was commenting to the other and I happened to overhear what the one was saying to the other,
" We are going to collect a paycheck and not even have to have a job", as if to suggest a vision of the future.......
I know, and am friends with several Afro-American fellows that work as hard or more than me,
But that statement really offended me, BUT, I feel that's the goal of the majority of them folks
that use the old slavery days as an excuse to be sorry, lazy and criminal..................
However, I can point to plenty of white folks that also are doing the same thing , etc, etc.....................
Not as many, etc, etc .................
What's my point ???????????????????
Damned if I know = just observations, and MHO .................................

IMHO enemployment benefits are a type of insurance. It takes a lot of time these days to find a job. It is something that is paid for by your employer, even then they are just buying into an insurance pool. Their rates go up if they lay off a lot of people. It gives them an incentive to staff appropriately. If someone goes on a wild hiring spree expecting to grow like crazy and then lays off a lot off people they get financially punished for it. It is not as though everyone out there is deparate for a job, any job. Some people chose to take job A over job B. So I think it is justified to charge a company more if they are laying people off.

It does however create another problem. If a companies business is shrinking because of the overall economy, and then they have to pay more for unemployment insurance, it is gonna hurt them at the worst possible time. Small business owners have it pretty rough, especially when you consider that the economy is getting wrecked by greedy wall street bankers. Bankers who dont provide anything tangible to society. There is a japaneese word I think it is "Muda" which generally means waste. More specifically it is any function that does not contribute to the actual finished product. It did not go over well at one meeting when I pointed out that by definition all managers are Muda : )

It strikes me as odd that so many small business owners are right wing people. They want smaller government and to pay less taxes which sounds good. This same smaller government then does not regulate enough and the economy suffers and their business subsequently suffers.

I would never look down on someone for taking enemployement. It is your right, if you are eligable for it, you earned it.

Food stamps and cash dispersments are another thing. The abuse is so rampant. It also pisses me off to see everyone in line in front of me using their ebt cards. We basically pay women to be babymomma's. Welcome to america how was your trip here is your credit card. You have no skills, No problem! You dont speak english, No problem!

The political parties have figured out how to evenly divide the public by which issues they support resulting in a stalemate. We are ignorant, and we let them do it so nothing ever changes. How about some commen sense compomises from both sides.

I get tired of the whole race thing as well nowadays, if you don't like what's going on and the leadership, your a racist. Meanwhile, I was one of the biggest supporters of Herman Cain. In fact I still am. And I don't believe ANY of those women with sexual harassment allegations, that was just because they didn't want to face a true conservative "black man" up against the liberal "black man". He would have mopped the floor with him with facts

Healthcare needed some work, but we didn't need what we ended up with, hope they demolish it and rebuild a better system, AND we end some of the free loading to the system going on, and we will be well on our way to reversing the damage the politicians have done. And they need to cut up the credit cards. Just my 2 cents
