I was wondering if anyone out there, who grows and cures their own tobacco, uses their freshly used oak staves or sticks in any part of the tobacco curing process? I was thinking of putting them in my kiln, in my crockpot which is providing heat and humidity, or putting them in a jar of cured, dry tobacco, when I am bringing back moisture to roll into cigars. Any thoughts if this would give my tobacco a hint of whiskey flavor?

Someone just posted a link to a barrel supplier. They sell barrel humidors. For flavoring and aging cigars. They sell some flavoring sprays too? Not to sure about that part. But I'm liking the idea of maybe a used oak stick in a humidor. And I'm planning on trying it. Some how?

I do like that idea. Perhaps I will make one on my own. I have an old 3 gallon barrel that I don't want to age with anymore. I don't know about the spray tho. I'm still thinking a freshly soaked stick or two would be good. It may take a little longer for it to sweat out, but I'm not worried about time.

Trays what I was thinking too. The sprays just don't sound appealing to me. I had thought taking a stick out of one of my aging jugs when its done. And using it.

So you are growing and making your own cigars? A local cigar shop offers cigar rolling similars. I've been thinking about checking it out.

Yes, I only have two varieties right now. Golden burley, and shirey. I have 20 plants, but more seedlings that I started not too long ago. I'm hoping to see how far I can push the season. My later plants will be in large pots that I will try and move into my greenhouse late into the season. I'm hoping they won't get funky on me once the weather cools.

They have a large tobacco auction just north of me. After harvest. I and some others had talked about going in together and buying some. But never followed through.

I have just recently gotten into cigars. Still trying to find what I like. But I am really thinking about checking out the rolling thing. They can be hired out for parties. They will come and roll at the party. And everyone walks away with 3 cigars. That would be cool to do. But I know it would be a little to pricey for me to do. I will have to talk someone like my wife boss into it.

i don't know too much here. but as a cigarette smoker, i know that Natural American Spirit cigarettes have two perique tobacco labels. one that is regular (gray) and one that was cured in bourbon barrels (Black). i can taste a difference, but it's pretty slight. i say go for it! everything could use a hint of whiskey flavor
