What does your partner think of this hobby?

Little or nothing to do with distillation.

What does your partner think of this hobby?

Post by BareKnuckles »

Just wondering what everyone's wife/partner thinks about your distilling hobby..
Mrs Knuckles is pretty cool about it as long as I do it in the building beside the house. She'll pick up supplies at the grocery store for me and doesn't bitch about it at all(well mostly).

She will occasionally drink some if I make it weak.... She want's me to make rum but I have not attempted it yet. I need a good simple recipe for a light rum...

My wife   , and I have a simple rum recipe, I will let you know how it turns out when I taste it. I got it from LWTCS. it uses Panela as a base. Good luck

My better half loves it as long as I don't leave a big mess. The biggest + is no more liquor store bill and we both like what we are drinking. I distilled on Saturday/Sunday now it is Monday and I still have a ferment left in the kitchen that I still need to clean up, I need to go do that now but I like the way it smells when I get home! I know it wont smell good long  so I am off to do some cleaning!

My better half likes it fine, she drinks it too. Most of what we eat or drink, I or we have had a hand in anyhow so it just fits our way of life.

My girlfriend thinks it's great! She doesn't drink as much as she used to, but she likes my stuff. I have my fermenters currently *on* the kitchen table, as my fermenting room is getting a little cold. It's actually a good conversation starter, and she just laughs. I think the eventual price will be when we get married I'll have to supply the thing....

Mine thinks I don't do it often enough or fast enough. She absolutely hates it when she has to buy vodka.

My other half not only approves, but encourages it. She is always asking when I am going to make more, always wants me to try new recipes.
I hadn't done anything for awhile, and just recently (today even) finished my column and have moved my entire set up out of the house and into the garage, she is really cool about it, but I can tell she would rather I made the mess in the kitchen just so she can observe.

Maybe someday we will have His and Hers stills

Mrs Sam actually encourages me to distill. She is a vodka drinker so the VM is fired up when we get down to the last gallon.
I never keep neutral in any quantity @ +90%, just not safe. But some of her infusions ask for high proof so I keep that in the shed.

Its great Mrs Sam enjoys the hobby with me, but I reckon its got a lot to do with the big saving we make on booze... :ewink:

The better half can take it or leave it. She thinks the process is "pretty cool" ... but wouldn't care if I never fired up the rig again. Her only objections have been some of the fermentation "smells" (which I prefer to call "aromas") ... and carrying "those big sugar bags" when I ask her to do me a favor on shopping days.

Im lucky enough to be marrying a great gal who doesn't mind it. Last weekend she brewed her first batch of beer with minimal input from me, I'm guessing soon enough she will running the still. :)

Dont worry i'm in the same boat! Im in the process of planning how much beer/wine/likker I need to have ready by next summer. I always thought it would be cool to supply homebrew.
The man bangin' on the door yelled "Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms!"....I just assumed it was more supplies.

My missus is not really a BIG fan of my hobby. She doesn't complain much. Only when I leave a mess in the kitchen. She is not a drinker. BUT, her "lady" friends love to drop by when she says I am experimenting again!!! :D I love them moochettes!

Mine has two minds on it. She doesn't talk about it much. She likes it that I broke even on it quite some time ago, and now have a very small liquor store bill. If I get around to it at some point, I might make some associated stuff like triple sec but for now I'm just working on rum.

Mine's been givin me a couple of funny looks lately, not cause she minds, but because I'm constantly trying to justify fitting all the equipment and supplies into the suite... I just picked up 40 kgs of grain today, and a bucket of molasses, and I'm getting malt and stuff for a mash tun this weekend so I can do an AG. She's a giant fan of the latest vodka though, so I don't see any problems coming. Hey berg1520, any idea how much you need? I've got 15 gallons of 65% aging, but the problem is that every batch I make is better than the one before it, so I almost want to get rid of it so I can drink the good stuff!

Mine will stir an AG mash if I ask politely. She also knows she's gonna get to drank on it when it's jarred, so I suspect she doesn't mind. :D
